You can enable or disable a permission for a group, such as the capability to create personal dashboards, or set a preference such as the maximum number of objects displayed per page in a worksheet.

You can disable permissions that you cannot restrict with security role assignment, such as adding labels or comments.

Before you begin

You have signed in as a user assigned to the Administrators or Security Administrators group.

Procedure

  1. Go to MANAGE > Groups.
  2. Select a group.
  3. Click the Preferences tab.
  4. To enable or disable a permission or set a preference for this group, click the Add icon.
  5. In the dialog box, select a permission or preference in the list and click OK.
  6. To set the value for a preference, double-click the Value cell.
    Action Description
Enable a permission or preference Set the value to True.

For example, you set the Call REST API permission to True to allow the users of this group to access the REST API.

If you enable the edit permission of contents such as editing collections or worksheets, you must have the Editor role assigned for the contents.

Disable a permission or preference Set the value to False.

For example, you set the Edit Presentations permission to False to disable the capability for the users of this group to create their own presentations.

Define a preference Set a numerical value above 0. Generally, setting the value to 0 means unlimited.

For example, you set the maximum number of objects displayed per page in a worksheet to 100.

  7. To remove an assigned permission or preference, click the cross icon next to the permission or preference.
  8. Save for the changes to take effect.
Talend Data Catalog reads the group preferences when starting up. They are cached until you refresh the browser.
If you are part of multiple groups, Talend Data Catalog takes care of consolidating the contradicting settings. For example, if there are different values for the maximum number of objects displayed per page in a worksheet, Talend Data Catalog chooses the largest one.
