Before you begin

  • You have a Talend Data Catalog Advanced Plus license edition.
  • You have been assigned a global role with the Application Administration capability.

Procedure

  1. Go to MANAGE > Metamodel then click START EDITING.
  2. In the Object Types panel, select an object type from the list.
  3. On the right side of the properties, click the Relationships tab.
  4. Click the Add icon then select New relationship (association).
  5. Select the Bi-directional check box to create a bi-directional relationship or clear the check box to create a uni-directional relationship.
  6. Fill in the following fields.
    Field Description
    END1 Object Type
    • Select an object type from the list, for example Term.
    • Enter a source role name in the Name field, for example, Has acronym.
    • Select the cardinality, for example Many.
    • Type in a description.
    END2 Object Type

    Select an object type from the list, for example Acronym.

    If it is a bi-directional relationship:
    • Enter a destination role name in the Name field, for example Is Acronym for.
    • Select the cardinality, for example Many.
    • Type in a description.
    Participates in semantic flow Click Yes to include this relationship in the usage and definition semantic flow lineage. By default, the option is set to No.
    Package Select a package that the relationship is a member of.

    The Default package is assigned by default.

    An association role name must be unique for the END1 and END2 objects.
  7. To open the properties of the new relationship, expand the node of the parent object and click the relationship name in the Object types panel.
  8. If necessary, reorder the relationships in the list using the Move Down or Move Up icon.
  9. If necessary, remove a relationship type using the Remove selected relationships icon.
  10. Save your changes.

Results

You are now ready to define model types.
