In Talend MDM Web UI, the Staging Data Browser menu allows you to browse staging data records pertaining to a specific entity in the specified data container.

Before you begin

  • The MDM server is already launched.

  • You have been assigned a role with the appropriate user authorization and access rights.

  • You have selected the data container which holds the staging data records you want to manage and the corresponding data model against which the staging data will be validated.

  • At least one view has been created in Talend Studio.

About this task

To open a generated view of a staging data record pertaining to a specific entity, do the following:

Procedure

  1. Search the records of interest in the Staging Data Browser page.

    Example

This page always opens on the list of staging data records pertaining to a specific entity. The first record in the list is selected by default and its details is shown in the panel to the right.
  2. From the list, you can click a specific staging data record to show its details in the pane to the right or right-click the record to display a contextual menu.

    Example

  3. From the contextual menu, select:
    Option To...
Edit Item with Row Editor update the staging record through a row editor. For more information on editing data records, see Updating a data record in an entity.
Open Item in New Tab open the record details in a new tab.
All viewable attributes pertaining to the staging data record appear in the panel to the right.
Note: If a foreign key has been defined to link the selected entity to another entity in the data model, two tabs will display in the detail view to represent the two entities linked together.

These attributes differ according to what has been defined in Talend Studio when defining the data model. For more information, see Creating a data model.

Note: All the viewable attributes associated with the open data record are based on the access rights of the role assigned to you by the administrator/manager..

By default, read-only attributes are displayed in grey, while writable attributes are displayed in white.

However, you can change the colors in which the read-only attributes are displayed for all users or for a specific user.

Many management operations are accessible through the different tabs in this generated form of the staging data record. The table below explains these operations.

    Icon/Character Function
Uploads a picture for the staging data record either locally or from the server.
Removes the picture for the staging data record.
Displays an information tooltip for the related attribute.
    Indicates a mandatory attribute.

Manages relationships (foreign key) between entities: opens the related record in a new page.

A staging data record may match one or multiple other staging data records according to the match rule attached to a specific entity, and therefore it will be involved in the match and survivorship process to build a golden record which will be written into the master database as a master data record.

To obtain more information about the relevant master data record, click More... and select the desired options from the contextual menu. For the description about the options available in the contextual menu, see the table below.

The following options are available on the view toolbar:

    Click To...
Save save any modifications you may do on the record detail.
Save and close save any modifications you may do on the record detail and close the record.
Mark as deleted delete the record permanently or only erase it from the data record list.
    refresh the page display.
    • Open Item in New Tab: open a new tab that shows the record details.
    • Duplicate: open an exact copy of the staging data record in a new page. Then you can use this copy as a base to create a new staging data record in order not to create one from scratch, for example.
    • Validate: check if the staging data record is valid before saving it into the master database. If the record is valid, it can be saved successfully. If not, an error message will be displayed.

If the staging data record is involved in the match and survivorship process to generate a master data record, the following options are available:

    • Open Master Record: open the relevant master data record in a new tab.
    • Open Task: open the associataed Talend Data Stewardship task page. Make sure you have logged into Talend Data Stewardship as a data steward of the relevant campaign to which the task belongs. Note that if the status of the golden record is 205 after the match and survivorship process, no Talend Data Stewardship task will be created, and in this case, this option is not available for the golden record and its source staging record(s).
    • Match Plan: open a dialog box which shows the match details.

In the Staging Data Browser page, click More... and from the contextual menu, you can do the following:

    • Select Open Master Record to open the relevant master data record in a new tab. From a master data record, you can click More... and select the desired options from the contextual menu to learn more information about the relevant staging data record(s) and match details.
    • Select Match Plan to open the Match Plan dialog box, where you can view the information of group size, confidence score, consolidated score, and score per field.
    • Select Open Task (if available) to navigate directly to the associated Talend Data Stewardship task page.
