How to install the SAP Java Connector

The SAP Java Connector (JCO) enables Talend Studio to communicate with the SAP system via SAP's RFC protocol. It must be installed before using Talend SAP components and SAP metadata wizard.

This article explains how to install the SAP Java Connector into Talend Studio on Windows 7 64-bit and Red Hat 64-bit and it applies to all Talend products on subscription from v5.6 upwards. For how to install the SAP Java Connector on other systems (such as Sun, IBM AIX, etc.), please read the SAP Java Connector installation guide page mentioned below and refer to the installation procedure for Windows and Red Hat.

Checking the version of the SAP Java Connector

Before installing the SAP Java Connector, you must check that you have the appropriate distribution package for your system and processor.

Before you begin

Note that Talend Studio does not include the SAP Java Connector, it is usually delivered by your SAP provider. You can also download it from the SAP Service Marketplace at http://service.sap.com/connectors. If you have any problems obtaining it, please contact your SAP provider.

Procedure

  1. Unzip the distribution package into an arbitrary directory {sapjco-install-path}.
  2. Open the installation guide page {sapjco-install-path}/javadoc/installation.html or {sapjco-install-path}/docs/jco/installation.html.
  3. Go through the SAP Java Connector installation page and check that you have had the appropriate distribution package for your system and processor.

Installing the SAP Java Connector on Windows 7 64-bit

Subscription
The following steps illustrates how to install the SAP Java Connector into Talend Studio on Windows 7 64-bit.

Procedure

  1. Unzip the appropriate distribution package into an arbitrary directory {sapjco3.x-install-path}.
  2. Add {sapjco3.x-install-path} to the system PATH environment variable.
  3. Go to the directory {sapjco3.x-install-path}, and copy the sapjco3.dll file and paste it into c:/windows/system32.
  4. In Talend Studio, click the Window > Show view... menu and in the pop-up dialog box displayed, expand Talend and select Modules, then click OK to open the Modules viewer.
  5. Click on the upper right of the Modules viewer, and in the pop-up dialog box, browse to {sapjco3.x-install-path} and select sapjco3.jar, then click Open.
  6. Restart Talend Studio.

Installing the SAP Java Connector on Red Hat 64-bit

The following steps illustrates how to install the SAP Java Connector into Talend Studio on Red Hat 64-bit.

Procedure

  1. Unzip the appropriate distribution package into an arbitrary directory {sapjco3.x-install-path}.
  2. Go to the directory {sapjco3.x-install-path}, and copy the libsapjco3.so file and paste it into the lib folder under the JDK installation path.
  3. In Talend Studio, click the Window > Show view... menu and in the pop-up dialog box displayed, expand Talend and select Modules, then click OK to open the Modules viewer.
  4. Click on the upper right of the Modules viewer, and in the pop-up dialog box, browse to {sapjco3.x-install-path} and select sapjco3.jar, then click Open.
  5. Restart Talend Studio.
