From Talend MDM Web User Interface, you can search and open a generated view of master data records pertaining to a specific entity in a specific data container.

Prerequisite(s):

  • The MDM server is already launched.

  • You have been assigned a role with the appropriate user authorization and access rights. For further information, see Security.

  • You have selected the data container that holds the master data you want to manage and the corresponding data model against which the master data will be validated. For further information, see Accessing data containers and data models.

  • At least one view has been created in Talend Studio. For further information, see the Talend Studio User Guide.

To open a generated view of a master data record pertaining to a specific entity, do the following:

  1. Follow the steps outlined in How to search entities in the selected data container to list the records of interest in the Master Data Browser page.

This page always opens on the master data record list pertaining to a specific entity. The first record in the list is selected by default and its details show in the panel to the right.

    Note

The number of the records displayed in the page depends on what you have already defined in the Lines/page box in a previous search. Change the number in the box according to your needs and then restart your advanced search to display the desired number of records in the page. This number will be retained every time you try to browse data records in the repository (MDM hub).

  2. From the list, you can click a specific master data record to show its details in the pane to the right or right-click the record to display a contextual menu.

  3. From the contextual menu, select:

    Option

    To...

    Edit item with row editor

update the record through a row editor. For further information on editing data records, see How to update a data record in an entity.

    Open item in new tab

open the record details in a new tab.

All viewable attributes pertaining to the data record appear in the panel to the right.

Note

If a foreign key has been defined to link the selected entity to another entity in the data model, two tabs will display in the detail view to represent the two entities linked together.

Note

If a smart view has already been created in Talend Studio for the business entity that holds the record, the Master Data Browser page will open on this customized view and not on the usual generated view. For further information on how to open a smart view, see How to open a smart view of a data record in an entity. For further information on smart views, see the Talend Studio User Guide.

These attributes differ according to what has been defined in the Studio when defining the data model. For further information, see the Talend Studio User Guide.

Note

All the viewable attributes associated with the displayed master data record are based on the access rights of the role assigned to you by the administrator/manager. For further information, see Security.

By default, read-only attributes are displayed in grey, while writable attributes are displayed in white.

However, you can change the colors in which the read-only attributes are displayed for all users or for a specific user. For more information, see Talend Help Center (https://help.talend.com).

Many management operations are accessible through the different tabs in this generated form of the data record. The table below explains these operations.

A master data record may come from a golden record built from a group of one or more similar staging data records which are matched and merged according to the match rule attached to a specific entity. For more information about the golden record, see Performing integrated matching tasks in the Staging Area.

To learn the group of source staging data record(s) and how the match rule is applied to them, in the Master Data Browser page, click More... and select the desired options from the contextual menu. For the description about the options available in the contextual menu, see the table below.

The following options are available on the view toolbar:

Click

To...

Save

save any modifications you may do on the record detail.

Save and close

save any modifications you may do on the record detail and close the record.

Delete

delete the record permanently or only erase it from the data record list. For further information, see How to delete a data record from an entity.

refresh the page display.

  • Open Item in New Tab: open a new tab that shows the record details.

  • Duplicate: open an exact copy of the record in a new page. Then you can use this copy as a base to create a new master data record in order not to create one from scratch, for example. For further information on adding new data records, see How to add a new data record to an entity.

  • Journal: open a page that lists all logs on the selected master data record. For further information, see Viewing log files for all data records.

If the entity that the data record pertains to has foreign key links with other entities, the following options are available:

  • Navigator: open a page that allows an authorized user to graphically explore all master data records linked with any selected master data record by foreign keys.

  • Relations: open a page where you can define criteria to search the data records linked with the selected data record. Note that this option is available as long as there is a foreign key defined to point to the entity that the selected data record pertains to.

For more information, see How to navigate master data records linked by foreign keys.

If the master data record comes from a golden record which is built from a group of one or more staging data records through the match and survivorship process, the following options are available:

  • Match Lineage: open a page which lists the relevant staging data records that were merged to create the golden record, along with the golden record itself.

  • Open Task:

    • The Talend Data Stewardship Console is deprecated since Talend 6.4. Consider migrating to Talend Data Stewardship.

If Talend Data Stewardship Console is used to handle the tasks generated during the integrated matching process, it will open a page which shows the associated Talend Data Stewardship Console task. Note that the Talend Data Stewardship Console task will not be created if a group has only one staging data record, and in this case, this option is not available.

For more information, see the section about managing tasks in Talend Data Stewardship Console User Guide.

    • If Talend Data Stewardship is used to handle the tasks generated during the integrated matching process, it will be directed to the associated Talend Data Stewardship task page. Make sure you have logged into Talend Data Stewardship as a data steward of the relevant campaign to which the task belongs. Note that if the master record comes from a golden record whose status is 205 after the match and survivorship process, no Talend Data Stewardship task will be created, and in this case, this option is not available.

For more information, see the Talend Data Stewardship Documentation.

  • Match Plan: open a dialog box which shows the match details.

For more information about the match and survivorship process, see Working with records in the Staging Area.

The drop-down arrow

display a list of all the runnable processes created in the Studio on the selected entity. From this list, you can run any of the listed processes to carry out a specific task on master data. For further information, see Running a Runnable Process designed in the Studio.

In the Master Data Browser page, click More... and from the contextual menu, select Match Lineage to open the Match Lineage page.

In the Match Lineage page, you can do the following:

  • Click the Open Task button to navigate directly to the Talend Data Stewardship Console page where the associated Talend Data Stewardship Console task will be displayed or to the associated Talend Data Stewardship task page.

The Talend Data Stewardship Console is deprecated since Talend 6.4. Consider migrating to Talend Data Stewardship.

  • Click each item of the staging data record to display its details in the lower part of the Match Lineage page. From a staging data record, you can click More... and select the desired options from the contextual menu to obtain information about the master data record and how it was merged. For more information about the options available for a staging data record, see How to open a staging data record in an entity.

  • Click the Match Plan tab to open the Match Plan view which presents the information about the group size, confidence score, consolidated match score, and match score per field. For the description about those parameters, see How to simulate the matching of staging data records.

If needed, in the Match Plan view, click the button to open the [Match Detail] dialog box where you can get the detailed information about how each staging data record is matched.
