There are two ways to install the Studio: you can either install it with Talend Installer or install it manually:

Install

  • If you install the Studio via Talend Installer, you have nothing to do as it has been unzipped in the Installer installation directory (called Talend by default) with its license file, in the sub-folder called studio.

    If you install the Studio manually, copy the archive Talend-Studio-YYYYYYYY_YYYY-VA.B.C.zip to a directory of your choice and unzip it. Then create a file (without extension) named license containing your license key (found in your email - For more information, see License key), and paste the file at the root of the extracted directory.

Launch

  1. Launch the executable file corresponding to your operating system:

    • Talend-Studio-win32-x86.exe if you are on 32-bit Windows;

    • Talend-Studio-win-x86_64.exe if you are on 64-bit Windows;

    • Talend-Studio-win32-wpf.exe if you are on 32-bit WPF Windows;

    • Talend-Studio-linux-gtk-x86 if you are on 32-bit Linux;

    • Talend-Studio-linux-gtk-x86_64 if you are on 64-bit Linux;

    • Talend-Studio-linux-gtk-ppc if you are on an operating system that works on the PowerPC architecture;

    • Talend-Studio-linux-gtk-x86.sh, which is a script that runs the 32-bit or 64-bit Linux command and adds a parameter to avoid some graphical issues.

    Note that on Linux, you should add the execution rights to the desired file using the following command:

    $ chmod +x Talend-Studio-linux-gtk-x86.sh

  2. In the [License setup] dialog box that appears:

    • paste your license key in the blank area, or

    • click Browse License... to browse and select your license file and then click OK, or

    • click Import license... if you have already set your license and project in Talend Administration Center and want to retrieve this license.

    For more information on how to launch the Studio and set up a connection to Talend Administration Center, refer to the Getting started chapter in the relevant Studio User Guide.

External third-party libraries, Talend Metadata Bridge, Talend Data Mapper specifications and other additional packages

The [Additional Talend Packages] wizard lets you install additional packages such as those needed to install the Talend Metadata Bridge, third-party libraries required by certain connection components or connection wizards, and specifications used by Talend Data Mapper.

The Talend Metadata Bridge feature requires a separate installation through the [Additional Talend Packages] wizard.

Some external third-party libraries are required by some components or connection wizards to work properly and must also be installed through this wizard.

The installation of other additional features, such as the Talend Data Mapper specifications or the language packs, is optional.

  1. When the studio is launched for the first time, the [Additional Talend Packages] wizard opens. Note that you can also access this wizard later by clicking Install Additional Packages... from the Help menu of your studio.

  2. In the Available features area, if you select the Optional third-party libraries and/or Required third-party libraries check box, click Finish to open the [Download external modules] dialog box.

    In the Available features area, if you select one or more other check box(es) corresponding to the package(s) you want to install, for example the language packs, click Next.

  3. If you have selected the Optional third-party libraries and/or Required third-party libraries check box, follow the instructions described in the [Download external modules] dialog box to start the installation of external libraries.

    If you have selected another package, on the next page, select the update site from which the package(s) will be downloaded. The update site can be remote or local.

  4. Select the Do not show this again check box if you do not want to display the wizard at studio start-up, and then click Finish to complete the installation.

    Note

    Note that selecting the Do not show this again check box at the end of the process means you will not be informed of any new versions of the Talend Data Mapper specifications that may be made available after you perform this initial download. However, you can still check manually if new versions are available by clicking Install Additional Packages... from the Help menu of your studio.
