This section describes how to set up and load an HL7 schema for an output file. To set up and load an HL7 schema for an input file, see Centralizing HL7 metadata for an input file.
Defining the general properties
In this step, the schema metadata such as the Name, Purpose and Description are set.
In the Repository tree view, expand the Metadata node.
Right-click HL7, and select Create HL7 from the pop-up menu.
Enter the generic schema information such as its name and description.
Click Next to set the type of schema.
Setting the type of schema (output)
In this step, the type of schema is set as either input or output. For this procedure, the schema of interest is output.
In the dialog box, select HL7Output as the type of schema.
Click Next to define the output file.
Defining the output file
You can choose whether to create your file manually or from an existing file. If you choose the Create manually option you will have to configure your schema, source and target columns by yourself. The file is created in a Job using a tHL7Output component.
In this procedure, create the output file from an existing file.
In the Output Setting area, select Create from a file.
In the File path field, browse to or enter the path to the HL7 file to be uploaded.
A preview of the HL7 file structure will be displayed in the Message View area. The structure of this file will be applied to the output file.
In the Output File Path field, browse to or enter the path to the output file. If the file doesn't exist, it will be created during the execution of a Job using a tHL7Output component. If the file already exists, it will be overwritten.
Click Next to define the schema.
Defining the schema
In this step, we define the repeat elements and edit columns as required.
The source columns from the Linker Source area are automatically mapped to the target columns in the Linker Target area.
In the Linker Target area, right-click the element concerned and select Set As Repeatable Element from the contextual menu if needed.
Click [Schema Management] to edit the schema in the pop-up [Schema] dialog box if needed.
Click Next to finalize the schema.
Finalizing the schema
This step displays the final schema generated:
If needed, change the name of the metadata in the Name field (by default this is populated by the name of the segment type), add a comment in the corresponding field and make further modifications using the toolbar, for example:
Add or delete a column using the and buttons.
Change the order of the columns using the and buttons.
Click Finish to finalize creation of the HL7 output file.
The new metadata item is added under the HL7 node in the Repository tree view.
