Once you have defined a match rule and then attached the match rule to a specific entity of a data model in Talend Studio, you can check whether the match rule works well from Talend MDM Web User Interface.

In the Staging Area, you are allowed to perform a series of integrated matching tasks which can group together similar records in order to create a "golden" record, that is, a consolidated version of all the records in the group.

In this scenario, the following tasks will be verified:

  • A staging area validation task will be performed on the staging data records pending validation.

  • Similar staging data records that belong to the same entity will be matched according to the criteria you have defined in the match rule.

  • If two or more data records are similar enough, they will be merged into a golden record.

  • A task will be created in Talend Data Stewardship Console for the golden record.

  • The golden record will be written into the master database.

For more information about the integrated matching process and the tasks involved in the process, see Talend MDM Web User Interface User Guide.

To verify a match rule from Talend MDM Web User Interface, do the following:

  1. Log into the web user interface as an administrator.

  2. In the Domain Configuration area, select the data container and data model you want to work with, Product in this example.

  3. In the Menu panel, click Browse > Staging Data Browser to open the [Staging Data Browser] page.

Make sure several similar staging data records that belong to the Product entity are available on the page.

For more information about how to create staging data records, see Creating staging data records.

  4. In the Menu panel, click Govern > Staging Area to open the [Staging Area] page.

The details about the records that may require validation are displayed in the Status area.

  5. Click the Start Validation button to start the validation process.

  6. Go back to the [Staging Area Browser] page to check the results of the match and survivorship process.

Click Search to refresh the staging data records of the Product entity.

In this scenario, a golden record is now available.

  7. Click the newly generated golden record to view its details.

  8. To drill down the match details, click More... and then select Match Plan to open the [Match Plan] dialog box, where you can check how the similar staging data records are matched and merged according to the match rule.

  9. If needed, click More... and then select Open Task to view the task created in Talend Data Stewardship Console.

  10. On the menu pane, click Browse > Master Data Browser to open the [Master Data Browser] page.

Select Product from the Select an entity field, and then click Search.

A new master data record is now available.

In this scenario, the match rule works well for the Product entity of the Product data model from Talend MDM Web User Interface.
