Talend Data Catalog

Talend Data Catalog allows you to define producer and consumer users.

User type Description
Consumer As a consumer user, you can:
  • search for and access catalog assets such as datasets, glossaries or data lineage,
  • contribute to social curation using comments, certifications, endorsements or warnings,
  • customize your own UI layout,
  • create your personal worksheets and dashboards and share them with other users,
  • access the related APIs.

For example, data users, analysts or glossary reviewers can be part of this user type.

Producer As a producer user, you have access to all features, except the administrative tasks such as the repository and configuration management, security management and application administration.

In addition to having the same rights as a consumer user, you can add and edit catalog assets, such as datasets, glossaries, semantic types or custom attributes, for which you have the appropriate access rights.

For example, data architects, data stewards or glossary editors can be part of this user type.

By default, all users are consumer users.

To be a producer, you need to be assigned to the predefined Producers group, as follows:

  1. Go to MANAGE > Users.
  2. Right-click a user from the list.
  3. Click Set Group(s).
  4. Select the Producers group to define the user as producer.
  5. Click OK to save your changes.

Once defined as a producer, you can see a tick icon in the Producer License column for the user.
