Talend Managed/Serverless versus Customer Managed

There are two main approaches that can be taken when choosing how to deploy Talend Cloud and how to execute the artifacts that you build with the platform:
  • Talend Managed / Talend Serverless - To utilize Talend services to the fullest extent, the components that are deployed on your IaaS platform are managed by Talend Cloud, making the platform quick and easy to deploy and minimizing maintenance overhead.
  • Customer Managed - Talend artifacts are deployed to a Serverless Platform or Container Orchestration platform, managed by the customer. Talend Cloud is used for tasks such as user and project management, but not for deployment, scheduling, or execution.

Some key points to note:
  • When executing Talend Jobs or Pipelines against a Big Data cluster, this cluster is not 'managed' by Talend. However, as the Talend Job or Pipeline that instantiates the process on the Big Data cluster is executed on a Talend Managed Remote Engine, this is still considered to be 'Talend Managed'.
  • For both approaches, the use of DevOps / Automation is strongly recommended.
  • The Talend Roadmap will continue to blur the technical distinctions between the two approaches, but the fundamental principles remain the same.
