Creating a structure from inheritance

Create a new structure based on an existing one and customize it.

Before you begin

You have created a structure.

About this task

When you create a structure by inheritance, the child structure is automatically updated when the parent structure is modified. Edits on the child structure have no impact on the parent structure.

Procedure

  1. In the Data Mapper tab, expand the Hierarchical Mapper node and right-click Structures.
  2. Click New > Structure.
  3. In the wizard that opens, select Create a structure that is a customization by inheriting from another structure and click Next.
  4. Select the existing structure to use as a base for your new structure.

    Example

  5. Select a folder and enter a name for your structure, then click Next.
  6. If you want to add a sample document, select the relevant option, otherwise leave the default option and click Finish.
Your structure is now created, you can start editing it.
  7. Customize your structure as needed.
    1. Right-click an element and click New Element to create a new child element.
    2. Right-click an element and click Delete to remove it from the structure.
