Customizable dashboards in homepage Dashboards provide an insight of the catalog assets and are customizable to meet the specific needs of each user.

As a user, you can create and customize dashboards and share them with other users.

As an administrator, you can define default dashboards for the homepage of user groups.

This feature is easy to use with Business Intelligence report capabilities, such as tile layout and widgets for statistics with grids, bar or pie charts. It is based on the metadata query language (MQL) and worksheet technologies released in the previous version.

Customizable metadata object details pages You can customize overviews for each object type in the details page using the dashboard capability. You can create personal overviews to adapt the presentations of the catalog assets to your needs and share these overviews with other users.
As a business user who needs to understand data and its trustworthiness, you can create overviews focused on data samples and social curation.
As an administrator, you can define default system overviews and assign them to user groups.

User experience improvements
  • Talend Data Catalog now has only one interface and is fully implemented in the former Metadata Explorer UI.
  • The header banner has simpler top right menus:
    • You can access REST API, help and other tools with the tool sub-menu.
    • You can edit the user account profile, access preferences and log out with the user sub-menu.
    • You can access the default, recent and other configurations with the configuration sub-menu.
  • A gear icon now appears on the top right of the banner when running operations in the configuration.
  • The header menu includes objects, collections, worksheets, dashboards, and manage with harmonized sub-menus and direct access to favorites and recent.
  • The explorer panel is now available for objects, collections, worksheets, and dashboards.
  • The build menu has been improved in the configuration management page.
  • The data flow lineage filtering performance has been improved and is now performed locally on the web client, reducing the server load.
  • The metadata object details pages have been improved:
    • You can view table columns and file fields by physical order. You need to re-harvest the models to get the physical order by default.
    • You can add attachments at object level such as to a term, table or column.
    • You can preview object thumbnail image by uploading it manually or being automatically imported by some bridges.
  • The administration UI has been improved and harmonized:
    • You can add an avatar to the user profile.
    • You can manage users easily with the new Properties, Statistics and Activity tabs in the Manage Users page.
    • You can manage easily the user authentication mode harmonized between Native, LDAP, OAuth, and SAML.
  • Overall layout, graphics, icons and presentation have been refreshed and improved.

Activity and operation monitoring You can monitor any operation in real time, such as concurrent model imports, configuration build, or repository backup/restore. Only the operations running on behalf of the current user are displayed.

A gear icon appears on the top right of the banner with a counter of concurrent operations. When all operations are completed, the gear icon stops spinning. In case of error, the counter is replaced by a red error icon.

At any time, you can click this icon to display the list of operations, open the log or clear the completed operations.

As an administrator, you can monitor the activities of other users by opening the new Activity tab in the Manage Users page.

Enhanced version and configuration management
  • You now manage the configuration using Manage > Configuration.
  • The incremental stitching accelerates the re-building of configurations based on the incremental harvesting of multi models from DI/ETL servers, Business Intelligence servers, data lakes and large data warehouses.
  • The configuration build now prevents concurrent configuration builds and provides better configuration status updates.
  • The model connection stitching now supports the multi-model databases including:
    • two levels (database model and schema) of traditional databases server like Oracle, Hive.
    • three levels (database model, database catalog and schema) of Microsoft SQL servers.
  • The change detection capability now relies on the name space such as schema/table/column and no longer on the physical native ID of the object such as table. This improvement prevents invalid change detection when the database is re-created using backup/restore, or when pointing from development to production server.

User authentication mode management for OAuth and SAML Talend Data Catalog now supports the latest version for the OAuth and SAML standards and their implementations in popular servers such as Azure ADFS.

Repository database space The repository database space for the incremental harvesting of the database servers has been improved. As the databases are now imported as multi-models at the schema level, each new imported version reuses the stable schema submodels.
